What's a bulb?

A bulb is like a plant's lunchbox. It's a compact storage unit packed with everything a plant needs to grow - nutrients, a mini plant, and even the beginnings of roots. Think of things like tulips, daffodils, or even onions. You plant these bulbs in the ground, and with a little time, water, and sunshine, you've got yourself a new plant.

What's a root division or bare-root plant?

A bare-root plant is just like it sounds - a plant with bare, exposed roots. These are dormant plants (basically, they're taking a nap). They don't have any soil around their roots, hence the "bare-root" name. When you get one of these, you plant it in the ground, and when the weather gets warmer, the plant wakes up from its nap and starts growing. A root division is just a bare-root plant that has been divided into multiple plants. They're graded by size with #1 being the largest, and the only size BloomingBulb will usually offer. Smaller grades will do just fine, they just may take more time to become established.

What is a hardiness zone – which one do I live in?

A hardiness zone is a geographically-defined area in which a specific category of plant life is capable of growing. Extra measures might need to be taken in areas where temperatures are high, like moving the plants from the ground to a much colder area through the winter. Click here to lookup your hardiness zone.
